Do: Post questions about music theory and structure, original music and works in progress posted for peer review and advice. Don't: Post links to other artist's work, anything containing explicit material, survey questions (such as "who like such-and-such band?") I know there are more, but I can't remember them. Hopefully and admin will come in and elaborate on the rules I have forgotten.
Thanks a lot.
Ground rules have been forgotten.
there are rules? lol
well i thought it was pretty funny considering nobody listens
I dont get. If we want to talk about music this is the music group right?
Wait...I am confused on these. So I see so many people post their song lyrics. Now if they do that, aren't they asking for a vote on how people like the lyrics?
@mattgibson u can talk about the history of music. the question that everyone posts is not allowed. the mods dont really understand how noone cares. the post above this (raven5) is a link. but no mod will close it.
Thank You Karate -!
@karatechopper It's a wrong practice. You don't post lyrics
people do anyway
I tryed posting a question to see how many other people were also (word that is not bad but I dont want to be suspended) so that I could get help with inspiration for a song on that topic... but one of the moderators closed my question and gave me a warning. what did I realy even do wrong?
Yall Are Going To Lose Alot Of People On THis Website Because Of THis
it realy is terrable and they deleted it so I cant even look at everthing that was posted...
@stabar didnt u say in the post, u posted it because your friend asked u to see who else was gay and u didnt know why ?
yes then later today she told me..I know it seems confusing but its true
I realy just want one of the moderators to explain this so that I can avoid this situation in the future
@ParthKohli But..look at the first guideline... Do: Post questions about music theory and structure, original music and works in progress posted for peer review and advice. People post lyrics which they have come up with. This is their work in progress..and they post it for advice and review of others.
Not lyrics. They may post about how they are composing **music**. You may recall that [c]rap lyrics are more like for the Writing group, because they have nothing related to music in them.
Now look, rap can actually be counted as music, that is just your opinion that rap is crap to you. Don't disrespect anyone else's views on that lol.
Well, and I mean, it's bad though... Anyways, I have seen that people have shown complete disregard for these rules.

I feel like that limits our Freedom Of Speech
Open Study is a private company, the first amendment does not apply in this case.
The first amendment guarantees the right of each person to speak in public freely without intervention from the *government*, it does not mean that private companies cannot have rules about what you can and cannot say or do. Do schools limit free speech by having rules against cursing? I wish people understood what the first amendment actually means - it does not mean that you can say anything, anytime, anywhere.
I cussed in school all the time .-.
And when you got in trouble, did the ACLU come rushing to your defense? I think not :P
I didnt get in trouble .-. xD
Okay then, well, here you will, so don't do it please.
I noticed a lot of poems being posted but no questions being posted.
Most people post their poems for some feedback on it, they pretty much ask for opinions by default :) @Dean.shyy
i don't see how i used profane language on one of my posts.. it was a normal thread like the rest of mine
Besides anything considered profane is filtered and if it isn't already then please fix that. I already settled with admins what words I can use and which ones I cannot.
Poetry is lyrical music. The most basic element shared by the two is rhythm. Hymns have gone as far as history is recorded. I would love to dispute the broad definition of music but I am busy respecting other artist's work.
Thank you, finally someone understands that this group is for questions like: What are the basic female voice ranges in chorus?
it can also be for people who would like advice about music of which they are creating at the moment, and in my opinon lyrics have to do with music. (@AccidentalAiChan im not criticizing you or anything just adding on)
Yeah, and I am cool with that. All questions I see are things like "what are your favorite songs?" and "Is Nikki Minaj a good rapper?" There are actually people on this site that will help with ACTUAL music questions. (and it really goes both ways @stabar . Some people who answer questions that have to do with notes and choir / orchestra can give feedback on lyrics and works that is posted. It kind of makes sense, doesn't it? If I weren't trained with all of this musical knowledge, then how would
I be able to give my feedback?)
Anyway, I see your point. And I agree with you ^^
thank you :) you have no idea how many people I get complaining to ME (im not an embasitor or anything like that) and they complain about people posing there lyrics in the music section.
People who post the lyrics just honestly look for the answers from people who are trained in this subject. It's still a valid topic. The only thing that is annoying about what people post is they all ask the same questions. If you were to ask "could you listen to this sample of a new song I wrote and give your opinion of what changes I should make" would be less vague on what you're asking. Understand what I'm trying to say? @stabar
to be honest, that whole thing confused me XD but im sure it ment something good.
xD I mean to say that people only ask "what is your opinion of this" instead of questions on specific parts of the song.
oh, well I think opinions are a great way to help people writing music sometimes. It can help a lot to know weather or not its any good or makes any sence. But if you look at the question below this one "Enrique Iglesias best song?" I know its asking for an opinion but the kind I ment was like peoples accual own work and getting advice/opinions.
yeah ^^ I understand. Some of these questions really boggle me because some people can just go onto the music chat and ask those questions. I am mainly here to just see the questions asked about melody, pitch, etc. (including the work of the people who question)
lol I remember trying to ask a question on the exact formations of whole-tone scales and an overview of the circle of fifths, and I got like....NADA O_O lol
These rules are 100% right Poems should NOT be posted here any lyrics should NOT be posted here it should be posted in the writing group.
Maybe there should be sub-categories... one for REAL musicians with questions about REAL music theory... and a "kiddy" group for questions about lyrics, links to YouTube showcasing their "talent", perhaps a lyrics section for backyard aspiring artists... There are musicians and then there are "musicians". Poetry is writing.... the sooner people realise this the better.
this helps alot @TurningTest :)
