The median and the mean do not coincide in a skew distribution. dw:1353464701938:dw Diagram (a) shows positive skewness where the median is less than the mean. Diagram (b) shows negative skewness where the mean is less than the median. A symmetrical distribution has equal probabilities above and below the mean and the median and the mean coincide.
