    So you actually have two equations: \[2a + 8 + 8 \to 2a + 16 \]and\[2a + 8 - 8 \to 2a\] -------------------------- BUT, if it was 2(a + 4) + (-8) then that's the same as 2(a + 4) - 8: 2(a + 4) - 8 2a + 8 - 8 2a <--answer

    2(a+4)+-8=2a+8+-8=2a
