    Here you are talking about Physics ( a branch of science that deals with nature) I believe that Friction is the core reason.

    Gravity keeps us pushed onto the ground. there is friction between us and the ground. We use this friction to push a foot backwards, the result of which is to move our centre or mass forward. The earth moves backwards slightly as a reaction. We take a step - easy! Ants just use adhesive friction. -Yahoo Anwers.
