    if your looking to find the value of d then you need to get it by itself and the only way to do that is to get rid of the 5 or divide it on both sides. |dw:1354946218571:dw| the 5's on the left side of the equation cancel out and you do simple division on the right side therefore d=3.42 understand?

    5d = 17.1 d = 17.1/5 d = 3.42 CynthiaJune is correct. I don't see how it can be explained any easier then she did.
