    it is really \(3^2-2^3\) or is it \(3^2-2^2\) ?

    the second one is \(3^2-2^2=9-4=5\) but if it is \(3^2-2^3\) then you get \[3^2-2^3=9-8=1\]

    does it read \[3^2-2^3\] with the exponent of 3 for the 2 or does it read \[3^2-2^2\] with both exponents 2
