Well, first you would add either 9 or 6 to both sides to combine like terms. I chose 6.

-6+3x=-9 Add 6 to both sides so "3x" will be by itself. 3x=-3 Then divide by 3 on both sides so x will be by itself. x=-1

Click "Draw" under the box where you type your responses. It's between "Equation" and "Attach File"

    x/5 + 9 = 4 (5) x/5 + (5)9 = (5)4 (multiply everything by five to get rid of the fraction) x + 45 = 20 (subtract 45 from each side to get x by itself) x + 45 - 45 = 20 - 45 x = 20 - 45 x = - 25 check... x/5 + 9 = 4 - 25/5 + 9 = 4 - 5 + 9 = 4 4 = 4 (correct) ANSWER : x = - 25
