2. Tabbiejack

I'm trying to solve this equation

3. Mathhelp346

Those are the steps. What are you confused about?

4. Tabbiejack

I see it but I'm just trying to see how you got that

5. Mathhelp346

Well, first you would add either 9 or 6 to both sides to combine like terms. I chose 6.

6. KiwiBaby

-6+3x=-9 Add 6 to both sides so "3x" will be by itself. 3x=-3 Then divide by 3 on both sides so x will be by itself. x=-1

7. Tabbiejack

Ok cool

8. Tabbiejack

How do I draw something

9. Mathhelp346

Click "Draw" under the box where you type your responses. It's between "Equation" and "Attach File"

10. Tabbiejack

I don't see that

11. Mathhelp346

Do you see the box where you type your responses and comments at?

12. Tabbiejack

I guess because I'm using an iPad

13. Mathhelp346

Oh

14. Tabbiejack

Can you draw something for me

15. Tabbiejack

X/5 x on top 5 on bottom + 9 = 4

17. Tabbiejack

Yes how do I solve that

18. kelliegirl33

x/5 + 9 = 4 (5) x/5 + (5)9 = (5)4 (multiply everything by five to get rid of the fraction) x + 45 = 20 (subtract 45 from each side to get x by itself) x + 45 - 45 = 20 - 45 x = 20 - 45 x = - 25 check... x/5 + 9 = 4 - 25/5 + 9 = 4 - 5 + 9 = 4 4 = 4 (correct) ANSWER : x = - 25

19. Tabbiejack

Got it thanks

20. kelliegirl33

no problem
