    To share suffering. Sympathy basically means like when you sad or somthing and you share your emotions and people feel bad for you. Like telling people your problems and getting sympathy for it.

    (prefix) sym means together (suffix) pathy means suffering Put them together and you get together suffering or suffering together.So, if your suffering together, you are sharing. Kay 14 was correct.
