about 10% of energy is transferred from lower level to upper level. If only 10% energy is transferred from producer to herbivores, the herbivores only get 560 calories. If the energy is transferred to the next level, only 56 calories are transferred. If the energy is transferred to the final level, only 5.6 calories is transferred. There are many reasons why 90% energy is lost. This can be due energy lost as heat, lost during excretion and so on. I hoped this help. Correct me if I am wrong.
