Both "The Rape of the Lock," by Alexander Pope, and "A Modest Proposal," by Jonathan Swift use elements of satire to show a viewpoint. Which selection do you think is more effective? Why? Consider the following aspects for your discussion: form, style, structure, tone, satirical elements and other techniques used by each author. Consider also the subject matter and how it is presented in each selection. Is it appropriate for its purpose and audience?

“A Modest Proposal” by Jonathan Swift is more effective because I agree that the way he writes, and the style, form, tone and irony are easy to read and understand. The tone of “A Modest Proposal”, is mocking English folks, and demanding a change in the Irish lifestyles. I believe this is appropriate for the audience.
