Which of the following mechanisms moved slower, the worm and wheel or the rack and pinion?

    Worm and wheel is slower because for each full turn of the worm shaft only one tooth of the wheel is displaced. In the case of the rack and pinion, the full turn of the pinion displaces an equivalent amount of teeth in the rack.
