Please help me Interpret this quote "literature becomes the living memory of a nation/Generation"

    either it becomes the history or it is that thats what the nation/generation is all about

    Literature is used to tell stories, some true, some fiction. So, in away, literature is a memory of the nation or generation, kept alive through writing.

    Literature is just simply words on paper. The way we read it and or interpret it, is what continues to keep it "alive"
