Why did the Renaissance begin in Italy? Italy was more religious than the rest of Europe. Italy was isolated from foreign involvement. Italy had political stability, wealth, and trade. Italy had rulers who were interested in the past.

The renaissance started in italy because it was at the crossroads of trade, where the silk road ended.

I would argue because Italians dominated the papacy, and Italy was politically divided into a collection of rival small states, almost city-states. That meant that there were always strong political alternatives to whichever family had presently captured the Throne of St. Peter and was running the Church, and those alternatives would be quite interested in sheltering and encouraging developments that could challenge whoever was Pope at the time. A secondary consideration would be that when the Byzantine Empire collapsed many of the purveyors of culture therein fled to Italy, with whom Byzantium already had strong commercial ties and good transportation routes. That isn't one of your answer choices, alas.

Of the answer choices you're given, the third strikes me as the one that's wanted.
