Rewrite (mentally) as x y =  5 {3x  3y = 15 Can you conclude that the two equations are identical or different? If they are identical, we have the equivalent of one single equation for two unknowns, so the system is dependent. If the lefthand sides are identical, but not the righthand side, then they are inconsistent. If the lefthand sides are different, then we have an independent system.

Well what i was thinking is that if you take the first equation and multiply it by 3, you'd get the second equation. So my thinking is that they're identical.
