The volume of a rectangular prism is represented by the function x3 + 9x2 + 6x - 16. The length of the box is x + 2 while the height is x + 8. Find the expression representing the width of the box. (2 points) Answer x - 4 x - 1 x + 1 x + 4

    The width is x-1 You first multiply (x+2) by (x+8) and you find (x2+10x+16) Then divide (x3+9x2+6x-16) by (x2+10x+16) to get x-1

    You can do what you did in the previous example, but notice that when you multiply (x + 2) by (x + 8) using FOIL, the last term of the product will be 16. When you multiply that by another binomial (x + a), the result will have to have a last term of -16. That seems to show that the factor you are looking for is (x - 1)
