    johnny want to ship a package to his friend. a shipping company charges 2.49 for the 1st lb and 1.24 for ea. additional lb. if it costs johnny 11.17 to ship the package how much did his package weigh?!?!?!

    11.17 - 2.49 (1 lb) = 8.68 ... 8.68 divided by 1.24 (additional lbs) = 7 7 + 1 = 8

    y = 2.49 + 1.25x

    x being the# of additional lbs so when you solve you would plug in 11.17 for y and solve for x
