Let x = amount of 11% flour Let y = amount of 63% flour The amount of whole wheat in x cups of 11% flour is 11% of x or 0.11x The amount of whole wheat in y cups of 63% flour is 63% of y or 0.63y In the final result, 12 cups of 50% whole wheat have 50% of 12 cups or 0.5(12) = 6 cups The first equation is 0.11x + 0.63y = 6 The amount of flour used is x + y, and the result is 12, so the second equation is x + y = 12 Solve the system: 0.11x + 0.63y = 6 x + y = 12
