Why is it so important in a democracy that citizens stay informed about how their government operates and what their government is doing?

    Elaborating on what Kiddo said, a democracy is only relevant if the citizens are watching and critiquing their government. If the citizens of a democracy are only basing their beliefs on the news the government is addressing, it's very easy to fall under their spell, so to speak.
