    you get 108 by multiplying 12 by 9 so to preserve the fraction you must multiply 9 by 9 also

    if you multiply by 9/9 you are effectively multiply ing by 1 so the fraction has the same value

    for example 1 / 2 = 1*2 / 2*2 = 2/4 2/3 = 2*3 / 3*3 = 6 / 9
