Since AB = BC, then 7 = x1 x = 8 So, the side (x1) = 81=7 Now, x3 must equal the other sides to be equilateral. Now, since x = 8, then (x3) = 83 = 5 So clearly 5 is not equal to 7, so the triangle is not equilateral. You can do this by inspection as well... since x represents the same number all the time, you see that (x1) is not equal to (x3) (because x is always the SAME number).
