you solve this by finding out what is the percent of books are in the library

if 55 percent gone, than 45% remains (subtract from 100%)

read your question...they have 9 books there so they HAVE to have more in total

so 9/.45 = 20 they have 20 books total

so lets check...55% are checked out so 20* .55 = 11 that would leave 9 in the library (2011 = 9) did you follow?
