Please read the new AntiCheating Policy. Most importantly, we collaborate with schools and colleges to enforce the code of conduct - especially for cheating and plagiarism.
Wow, I am getting medals! Thanks for supporting the goodness of OpenStudy!
You are truly amazing @preetha :)
I feel so broken right now
Thanks @Preetha for informing us! ^.^
My instructor also vacation, how do i tell my instructor assistant? I m totally lost
If we do not get to help from other to understand, so how we will ever able to learn anything?
@Zale101 are u also in FLVS?
Preetha are you medal hounding >(? :p All jokes aside, I want to know exactly how SCHOOLS are going to be HELPING us? Right now FLVS and I believe Connections are banning student access to Open Study.... Have you been in contact with these schools to ensure that all will go well? Will teachers be given mod access and look over this site and their students? Right now we are just saying that we will try and catch students who cheat, problem is "what is cheating?" We have no tests, exams, finals, quizzes, etc to look at to know if this is something from the schools? Granted users will post "final" or "test" or the usual "blah blah blah (points#)" or when they mentiont heir school. Now it comes back to how do us mods handle these situations? Do we suspend users for posting ANY content or just tests/exams? @faman26 was suspended for posting what "they claimed" to be an old test. I don't see why asking a question is bad, if it's "old" but when posting the actual information to the FLVS site IMO became the issue of "school property." Also since we do not have a "Ban" feature, how do we go about keeping cheaters off? Now this is what I believe should be done. 1. Openstudy has the "Partner System." If these schools and institutions are really partnered with us, they should be giving us all the necessary info. We are expected to help these schools and they get upset when they don't help us on their end. 2. Create an "accounting system" through the schools. Each user should be assigned a login, and only one to use for this site. This way we can track the users "and multis" through that one account. We also need to do something about multi acconts. Users shouldn't be able to create accounts on the fly, especially with the influx of cheating. 3. Create a system where us mods can deal with users who cheat. If someone cheats they shouldn't just get a suspension and a question deleted, we should be reporting them to the schools, and action should be placed on them. That's basically all I have for now. If we want everything to run smoothly changes will need to occur everywhere, but I'm ready, and I'm sure others are as well. If I said something in here I should have saved for pm, please delete and let me know. ~KZ
So i have to tell my instructor to email Miss Preetha, in order to use OS, right @KonradZuse ?
I'm not too sure what is going on, Preetha needs to let everyone know what's going on, I guess wen the time is right we will know.
Thanks @preetha this means a lot...now flvs can see open study is trying to fix things...maybe now they will try to work with us
Yeah right this will work just like COC works ha ha. You guys don't have enough people to run this board and that is why there is this trouble. Guys this rule will be like anything will be enforced for a while and than things will relax again, the problem here is most times I have found that reporting things sometimes don't make difference, because either A mods are all off-line b busy c don't care. what is really sad is the fact that some students use old tests to study from, this is not cheating. Colleges and schools you are targeting just those students that have been reported for this. This is where this whole thing will fail because there are also Untied states students that use this board. Go ahead and try to enforce this rule, but I am you telling you now this will only make more trouble. Unless there is proof that can be shown that the student is cheating this rule will not work. Sorry, I think this needs to be reviewed again and cover all cheating not just the students from those schools who are or were cheating.
@godorovg you make 2 points. 1 that this rule wont be enforced and that mods don't do their job properly. To that I can say read my above statement to which I agree, which is why rules need to be changed to make sure it works. Also some mods leave tabs open, some reports aren't looked at when I get 100 notifications, I cannot go back before 4-5 notifications(which maybe half would be reports). 2.The thing is that your schools are saying it's cheating, not us. We are going by what they say. FLVS stated that any content from their school, is their property. Posting their property elsewhere could get you in BIG TROUBLE. Also lets say you are Connections English 10th Grade, and you are studying your test from 9th grade. All of a sudden some 9th grader comes along and would you know it has the same exact test right now. They don't even need to post, since you posted for them. They just cheated without even leaving a presence, besides their icon popping in.
Great step... Sure users will be encouraged to use openstudy only as a resource and for help rather than plagiarism and cheating.
What does the guide say? I didn't find anything about OS on there.
All I want is for you OpenStudiers to keep doing what you do best, ask and help. Mods will do what Mods do - report, suspend etc. We have entrusted them with the power to judge. I support them all. So lets go help other OpenStudiers with their math or science or whatever.
