\[x^2+10x=23\] \[(x+5)^2=23+5^2=23+25=2\] \[x+5=\pm\sqrt{2}\] \[x=5\pm\sqrt{2}\] is the completing the square method

you can solve it using the quadratic formula if you like you will get the same answer
