Thumbs up for this one :D
Yup! I agree.
I know, ur right...
I am tired of (mainly spammers) making new accounts with inappropriate names because its against the CoC and its really gross. If people want to be on here, they might as well be respectful
This has definitely a horrible trend going on
I wonder why it has just recently become a trend?
idk, i just wish this site could be peaceful
@KeganMoore That would be amazing.
@KeganMoore It is peaceful, but there just couple of trolls that need to be banned. I find people in this site nice and helpful better than wikianswers and yahoo answers.
@bloodrain For sure, i just wish people didn't have ways around said filters, they misspell them purposefully to avoid them. What if new members were given a guest name until the username was checked? @Zale101 i am not just talking about those trolls, other things have gone down recently
The only problem is who is going to check all the usernames? Thats going to require staffing.
Moderators if, even Ambassadors could do that, anyone over 80 smartscore if i ran the site
I understand @KeaganMoore, i hope OS can do something about it :\
Yea, @Zale101 @bloodrain if i ran the site anyone over 80 would be username screeners, and if a databased username was inappropriate then the person who screened it would have to answer why
That might be alright until the spammers start spamming the screeners by creating tons of usernames
Have a set # of new usernames allowed daily
That would also limit the amount of people who only come here for answers and just leave and never come back
For now at least, make a limit on usernames per IP address
I have worked as a server op, server admin, and co president of several servers on mIRC
The problem is that Open Study is Public, which means any people can come in and go whenever they want whether they are trolls or learners.
@bloodrain that may not work because i use my schools ip
I guess thats right, what about whole schools?
who says it has to be purely public? Yes it may limit frequency, but in the long run private runs so much smoother
@bloodrain as in?
Alright, here is my idea FOR NOW. Swear filter on usernames. If a user/troll gets past the filter then mods will have to do something about it. Maybe if a user has an inappropriate username, there could be a new mod tool that suspends them until they change the username. IP banning might be a bad idea because of schools having multiple students online. Mods should be alerted whenever someone's chat post gets filtered for swearing. any other ideas?
also this should not be a burden for the regular users (hopefully)
you hit all the points right there @bloodrain
Why not make a new account named "Adolf Hitler"??????
