Horace Greeley was an American newspaper editor. Greeley tried for the Republican Party with support from the Democratic Party for the presidential nomination in 1904. Greeley died in that same year in August shortly after announcing running. Greeley is the only presidential candidate to have died prior to the counting of electoral votes.
