Americans combined drive about 5.5 x 109 miles per day and get an average of 22 miles per gallon. For each kg of gasoline that is burned about 3.0 kg of carbon dioxide are produced. How many kg of CO2 are emitted by US cars into the atmosphere each day? One gallon of gas weighs about 3.5 kg.
