well the formula I am using is SA = LA +2 * area of base B

are you sure it's not a 3-D shape ? like a box ?

well yes it is I am suppose to find the surface area of a refrigerator with the height of 5' and the width of 3' feet
phi

and what is its "depth" (front to back)
anonymous
  • anonymous
about 2 feet
phi
  • phi
there are short cuts to figuring the surface area but the easiest way is find the area of each side and add them up |dw:1370284919010:dw| there are 6 sides: 4 "real sides" plus the top and bottom each "side" is a rectangle: its area is "length * height"
phi
  • phi
hopefully you see the area of the bottom = 2*3 the top is the same size, so the top also has area 2*3 now find the areas of the sides. notice the front side is the same size as the back side
