the answer is x+5
the numerator simplifies to (x+5)(x+1)
the (x+1) in the numerator and denomiator cancel out, leaving you with x+5

when it says " x not equal to " what does that mean ?
It means just that: your expression is valid for all numbers for x except -1
The reason -1 won't work is because of your denominator; if x was -1, then your denominator would be -1+1 which is 0.
And you can't divide by 0. :-)
I think it means x cannot equal to -1 because the denominator is x+1. If x=-1, the denominator would equal to 0 because (-1)+1=0. If a denominator equals to zero, the fraction is undefined :))
thank you so much :)
Aw jeez guys!! Stop!!
Thank you, but sizzy was the one that did all the work. All I did was say why -1 wouldn't work.
But I appreciate it, and thank you!
Come to think, I'll pass my medal along (or back) to sizzy! :-)
@qweqwe123123123123111 shucks :) you're so nice hahaha
