I think....the patter that relates the number of pieces to the number of cuts it thay you add the number of pieces to the number of cuts eg 2+2=4 4+3=7 7+4=11 11+5=16 I also think that the 5 cut would have 16 pieces

ok, I'm up to speed on this. Yes, 5 cuts gives 16 pieces. I've got the rest for you, too.

You eventually get: f(x) = (1/2)x^2 + (1/2)x + 1 where "x" is the number of cuts and f(x) is the number of pieces.
