4 times the square of a number the square of a number means x² right? 4 times that means 4x² If this equals 16 we have 4x² = 16 We can divide both sides by 4...to isolate x² 4x² = 16 --------- 4 4 x² = 4 now take the square root of both sides to solve for 'x' √x² = √4 x = 2
