From the y= -2x + 5 to 2x + y= 5 And from y= 1/2x - 5 to x - 2y = 10
anonymous
  • anonymous
both of those equations are in slope intercept form. where they meet is the solution. the coordinates they said to plot are the y intercept. which corresponds to the equation's y int.

I'm sorry, I'm not really getting it :(

How did they start off with the equation of y= -2x + 5 to 2x + y=5 ?
anonymous
  • anonymous
Or from y= 1/2x - 5 to x-2y = 10?
anonymous
  • anonymous
it is the same line, they just changed it from slope intercept form to standard form.

How did they get the 10 though? I forgot this, I'm sorry :(
anonymous
  • anonymous
when you move the 1/2 to the other side you multiply both sides by 2
anonymous
  • anonymous
Then why did the 5 stay the same?
anonymous
  • anonymous
the five where?
anonymous
  • anonymous
from y= -2x + 5 to 2x + y = 5?
anonymous
  • anonymous
it stayed the same because all they did there was subtract the 2x from both sides.
anonymous
  • anonymous
you undo the operation acting upon it. that's why you have to multiply because it is dividing (1/2) and then you subtract because it was + 2x

OHHHH alright thank you!!!
