1 mole of mg requires = 2 mole of HCl 2.5 moles of mg requires = 5 moles of HCl but you have only 2.5 moles of HCl now u say the limiting agent

mean if 2.5 moles of Mg want to react completely it needs atleast 5 moles of HCl but in ur question they have given only 2.5 moles of HCl are there now which is limiting agent

use simply the unitary method. the equation says, 2 moles of HCl produced 1 mole of H2 now, 1 mole of HCl will produce 0.5 mole of H2 now, 2.5 mole of HCl will produce 0.5 * 2.5 moles of H2. = 1.25moles. i hope this helps,
