## SnuggieLad 3 years ago Grand Ole LaTeX tutorial! What is LaTeX? Latex is a form of code used to format lengthy text documents into a professional format. On our system we have different forms of it that let you use more mathematical formulas. We cant do major layout editing but math...we can do. The wonderful OpenStudy coding staff has made a button you can click to put in formulas for you called the "equation" button which is seen under the reply box. This is made using resources from the main LaTeX support site with major contributions from @kymber @thomaster @ParthKohli and @dmezzullo So, LETS GET STARTED! ~SnuggieLad

$$\LARGE \text{How To Write Basic Codes}$$ You start out by using the following format $$Text Here$$ That will output: $$Text Here$$ Now, notice the lack of spacing. That can be fixed simply by adding the squiggly key ~ or the latex space formula which looks like this :/ When you put that or the squiggly key in between words you get a space as the output. Fun fact! The squiggly key is my favorite key on the entire keyboard!

$$\LARGE \text{How To Change Sizes:}$$ QUICK TIP! The backslash that you use in front of the sizes is a command. These can be used to tell the code what to do. If you dont use them it will look like text and will not do any function that you want it to. To add a size you would write the code like this: $$\Large Hello$$ which would look like this: $$\Large Hello$$ There are muliple sizes in the LaTeX codes shown below: \tiny $$\tiny Hello$$ $$\tiny Hello$$ \scriptsize $$\scriptsize Hello$$ $$\scriptsize Hello$$ \small $$\small Hello$$ $$\small Hello$$ \normalsize $$\normalsize Hello$$ $$\normalsize Hello$$ \large $$\large Hello$$ $$\large Hello$$ \Large (Some sizes can be changed simply by adding a capital letter(s)) $$\Large Hello$$ $$\Large Hello$$ \LARGE $$\LARGE Hello$$ $$\LARGE Hello$$ \huge $$\huge Hello$$ $$\huge Hello$$ \Huge $$\Huge Hello$$ $$\Huge Hello$$

$$\LARGE {How~To~Change~Colors}$$ QUICK HINT! In this part of the tutorial we will start using different parenthesis to add more commands. We will be using Braces which look like this {} To add color the command will be \color{desired color here}{Text to be colored here} Put the size plus the color command together and you get : $$\Large \color{red}{Hello}$$ Which looks like: $$\Large \color{red}{Hello}$$ $$\Large \text{WORDED COLORS:}$$ $$\Large \color {Maroon}{Maroon}$$ $$\Large \color {Brown}{Brown}$$ $$\Large \color {Red}{Red}$$ $$\Large \color {OrangeRed}{OrangeRed}$$ $$\Large \color {Salmon}{Salmon}$$ $$\Large \color {Orange}{Orange}$$ $$\Large \color {Goldenrod}{Goldenrod}$$ $$\Large \color {Gold}{Gold}$$ $$\Large \color {Yellow}{Yellow}$$ $$\Large \color {GreenYellow}{GreenYellow}$$ $$\Large \color {YellowGreen}{YellowGreen}$$ $$\Large \color {Olive}{Olive}$$ $$\Large \color {Lime}{Lime}$$ $$\Large \color {SpringGreen}{SpringGreen}$$ $$\Large \color {Green}{Green}$$ $$\Large \color {ForestGreen}{ForestGreen}$$ $$\Large \color {SeaGreen}{SeaGreen}$$ $$\Large \color {Teal}{Teal}$$ $$\Large \color {Turquoise}{Turquoise}$$ $$\Large \color {Aqua}{Aqua~or~cyan}$$ $$\Large \color {Aquamarine}{Aquamarine}$$ $$\Large \color {CadetBlue}{CadetBlue}$$ $$\Large \color {CornflowerBlue}{CornflowerBlue}$$ $$\Large \color {RoyalBlue}{RoyalBlue}$$ $$\Large \color {MidnightBlue}{MidnightBlue}$$ $$\Large \color {Navy}{Navy}$$ $$\Large \color {Blue}{Blue}$$ $$\Large \color {Purple}{Purple}$$ $$\Large \color {BlueViolet}{BlueViolet}$$ $$\Large \color {DarkOrchid}{DarkOrchid}$$ $$\Large \color {Magenta}{Magenta}$$ $$\Large \color {Orchid}{Orchid}$$ $$\Large \color {Plum}{Plum}$$ $$\Large \color {Grey}{Grey}$$ $$\Large \color {Tan}{Tan}$$ $$\Huge \text{Hexadecimal Colors}$$ $$\begin{array}{c} \Huge{\bf{ \color{#FF0000}{\#FF0000}\\ \color{#FF1700}{\#FF1700}\\ \color{#FF2E00}{\#FF2E00}\\ \color{#FF4500}{\#FF4500}\\ \color{#FF5C00}{\#FF5C00}\\ \color{#FF7300}{\#FF7300}\\ \color{#FF8A00}{\#FF8A00}\\ \color{#FFA100}{\#FFA100}\\ \color{#FFB800}{\#FFB800}\\ \color{#FFCF00}{\#FFCF00}\\ \color{#FFE600}{\#FFE600}\\ \color{#FFFD00}{\#FFFD00}\\ \color{#FFff00}{\#FFFF00}\\ \color{#E8ff00}{\#E8FF00}\\ \color{#D1ff00}{\#D1FF00}\\ \color{#BAff00}{\#BAFF00}\\ \color{#A3ff00}{\#A3FF00}\\ \color{#8Cff00}{\#8CFF00}\\ \color{#75ff00}{\#75FF00}\\ \color{#5Eff00}{\#5EFF00}\\ \color{#47ff00}{\#47FF00}\\ \color{#30ff00}{\#30FF00}\\ \color{#19ff00}{\#19FF00}\\ \color{#02ff00}{\#02FF00}\\ \color{#00ff00}{\#00FF00}\\ \color{#00ff17}{\#00FF17}\\ \color{#00ff2E}{\#00FF2E}\\ \color{#00ff45}{\#00FF45}\\ \color{#00ff5C}{\#00FF5C}\\ \color{#00ff73}{\#00FF73}\\ \color{#00ff8A}{\#00FF8A}\\ \color{#00ffA1}{\#00FFA1}\\ \color{#00ffB8}{\#00FFB8}\\ \color{#00ffCF}{\#00FFCF}\\ \color{#00ffE6}{\#00FFE6}\\ \color{#00ffFD}{\#00FFFD}\\ \color{#00ffff}{\#00FFFF}\\ \color{#00FDff}{\#00FDFF}\\ \color{#00E6ff}{\#00E6FF}\\ \color{#00CFff}{\#00CFFF}\\ \color{#00B8ff}{\#00B8FF}\\ \color{#00A1ff}{\#00A1FF}\\ \color{#008Aff}{\#008AFF}\\ \color{#0073ff}{\#0073FF}\\ \color{#005Cff}{\#005CFF}\\ \color{#0045ff}{\#0045FF}\\ \color{#002Eff}{\#002EFF}\\ \color{#0017ff}{\#0017FF}\\ \color{#0000ff}{\#0000FF}\\ \color{#0200ff}{\#0200FF}\\ \color{#1900ff}{\#1900FF}\\ \color{#3000ff}{\#3000FF}\\ \color{#4700ff}{\#4700FF}\\ \color{#5E00ff}{\#5E00FF}\\ \color{#7500ff}{\#7500FF}\\ \color{#8C00ff}{\#8C00FF}\\ \color{#A300ff}{\#A300FF}\\ \color{#BA00ff}{\#BA00FF}\\ \color{#D100ff}{\#D100FF}\\ \color{#E800ff}{\#E800FF}\\ \color{#FF00ff}{\#FF00FF}\\ \color{#FF00FD}{\#FF00FD}\\ \color{#FF00E6}{\#FF00E6}\\ \color{#FF00CF}{\#FF00CF}\\ \color{#FF00B8}{\#FF00B8}\\ \color{#FF00A1}{\#FF00A1}\\ \color{#FF008A}{\#FF008A}}}\end{array} \hspace{1pt}\\ \hspace{1pt}\\ \color{#FF0000}█ \color{#FF1700}█ \color{#FF2E00}█ \color{#FF4500}█ \color{#FF5C00}█ \color{#FF7300}█ \color{#FF8A00}█ \color{#FFA100}█ \color{#FFB800}█ \color{#FFCF00}█ \color{#FFE600}█ \color{#FFFD00}█ \color{#FFff00}█ \color{#E8ff00}█ \color{#D1ff00}█ \color{#BAff00}█ \color{#A3ff00}█ \color{#8Cff00}█ \color{#75ff00}█ \color{#5Eff00}█ \color{#47ff00}█ \color{#30ff00}█ \color{#19ff00}█ \color{#02ff00}█ \color{#00ff00}█ \color{#00ff17}█ \color{#00ff2E}█ \color{#00ff45}█ \color{#00ff5C}█ \color{#00ff73}█ \color{#00ff8A}█ \color{#00ffA1}█ \color{#00ffB8}█ \color{#00ffCF}█ \color{#00ffE6}█ \color{#00ffFD}█ \color{#00ffff}█ \color{#00FDff}█ \color{#00E6ff}█ \color{#00CFff}█ \color{#00B8ff}█ \color{#00A1ff}█ \color{#008Aff}█ \color{#0073ff}█ \color{#005Cff}█ \color{#0045ff}█ \color{#002Eff}█ \color{#0017ff}█ \color{#0000ff}█ \color{#0200ff}█ \color{#1900ff}█ \color{#3000ff}█ \color{#4700ff}█ \color{#5E00ff}█ \color{#7500ff}█ \color{#8C00ff}█ \color{#A300ff}█ \color{#BA00ff}█ \color{#D100ff}█ \color{#E800ff}█ \color{#FF00ff}█ \color{#FF00FD}█ \color{#FF00E6}█ \color{#FF00CF}█ \color{#FF00B8}█ \color{#FF00A1}█ \color{#FF008A}█\\ \Large Special~~Thanks~~To: @\sf Thomaster$$$$\Large~~for~~the~~hexadecimal~~code!$$ Special thanks to Kymber for the worded code!!!

$$\LARGE \text{Tips and Tricks}$$ Lets say you want to add an enter or space in between lines without making a new code. All you have to do is use double backslashes For example, $$\Large \color{red}{Line~1}\\\Large\color{red}{Line~2}$$. Which would look like: $$\Large \color{red}{Line~1}\\\Large\color{red}{Line~2}$$ This makes it simple for people to find out exactly what code you used. You can make a long complex post with only what you have learned above. Now, to add smiley faces and other figures you can go into word or any website that has them and find text smiley faces in different fonts. Or you can use the ones windows gives you by hitting ALT+(any keys on number pad{Not on the number bar}). That would make this: (ALT+1)=☺ (ALT+2)=☻ (ALT+3)=♥ Etc. You would add those in just as you would a letter. That is the basic designing of LATEX code. If you want to design nice little figures or welcome signs you use those. Otherwise, you need to learn more advanced mathematics codes. $$\LARGE \text{Links:}$$ This is super tricky so listen carefully! To add a link you use the \href code so you would add \href{link here}{hyperlinked words here}. the hyperlinked words are what you will click on to go the the link. So if you want to click on the words "Click Here" that is what you put in that space. This site only allows internal links so you can only link INSIDE the Openstudy.com domain. That means when you submit the post it adds www.openstudy.com to the beginning your link from for example "www.google.com" it adds www.openstudy.com/www.google.com as your link. In turn, in order to add a link to an openstudy post you can ONLY put the last part of the link. For example, this page is " http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/51d89020e4b041c5c27459bb " So keeping in mind that it will automatically put in the " http://openstudy.com/ " part you add everthing AFTER the ".com/" NOT INCLUDING THE / DO NOT INCLUDE IT. So in turn you would only use the "study#/updates/51d89020e4b041c5c27459bb" part of the link So put it all together it looks like this: $$\Large \color{red}{\href{study#/updates/51d89020e4b041c5c27459bb}{Click~Here}}$$ Which would make: $$\Large \color{red}{\href{study#/updates/51d89020e4b041c5c27459bb}{Click~Here}}$$

what is this???

20. anonymous

you can choose or make your own colors :)

Or you can memorize the Hexidecimal system.

22. anonymous

@khiz how did you do that heart and smiley face?

23. anonymous

you can learn t your self by right clicking on the face, click on "Show math as" and then click on "Tex Commands" then you'll see the code :)

So now you know! Users that are advanced in LaTeX are advanced becuase of trial and error. We try very hard to perfect our skills and then we pass them on. Don't expect to get on the bike for the first time and start to ride. It wont work that way. You have to practice. That is the reason we have a LaTeX Practice area. Don't be afraid of making a fool out of yourself! WE ALL HAVE! You have to start by learning the basics and work your way to your own welcome signs. You wont just hop in and magically make a huge banner! It takes a lot more than you think! If anyone wants to learn more advanced stuff tell me! I will help you $$\tiny So now you know!
