    what if you had say Solve: 5(x+6) = 3x-4 and were to solve for "x", what would that give you?

    5(x + 6) < = 3x - 4 (distribute the 5 through the parenthesis) 5x + 30 <= 3x - 4 (subtract 3x from both sides) 5x - 3x + 30 <= 3x - 3x - 4 (combine like terms) 2x + 30 <= -4 (subtract 30 from each side) 2x + 30 - 30 <= -4 - 30 (combine like terms) 2x <= -34 (divide both sides by 2) 2x/2 <= -34/2 x <= -17 (x is less then or equal to -17) Any questions ?
