## OpenSessame one year ago Determine whether a tangent line to circle O is shown in the diagram, for AB = 7.75, OB = 4, and AO = 8.75. Explain your reasoning. (The figure is not drawn to scale.)

Well, if that line is tangent to the circle, then the triangle, in this case, would havetobe a right triangle, correct?

3. OpenSessame

Yes! OHHH i got it!

4. Psymon

Mhm. Well if it were a right triangle, then that would mean that the pythagorean theorem would be valid. So if it is a right triangle, then $8.75=\sqrt{4^{2}+7.75^{2}}$ So thats up to you to check

5. OpenSessame

i got that to equal 8.72?

6. Psymon

Right, so that means this isnt a right triangle because we didnt find it to equal 8.75. So it is not tangent then.

7. OpenSessame

Thanks man!

8. Psymon

Yep :3

9. OpenSessame

Didnt think about it that way lol

Im not that great at geometry, so thats, like, theonly way I know how to look at it xD
