Hey intelligent !!!Any help could be appreciated:- If a parallel sides of a trapezoid are contained by the lines Y=1/4 x +5 and Y=- 1/4 x -1 find the equation of the line that contains the mid segment. Please show me the equation to solve this!!!!!!!!!

you said they're parallel sides, but the equations have opposite slopes. is there a typo ?
anonymous
  • anonymous
Those lines aren't parallel. They can't be parallel sides since they have different slopes.

yes parallel sides of a trapezoid

You definitely didn't type this word-for-word. "If a parallel sides of a trapezoid are contained by the lines...." isn't even good English.

ha ha ha ah sorry guys it is the way it is

np :) check wid the instructor if there is a typo. this kindof problem is pretty easy to solve actually you just need to find the y intercept using midpoint formula

I thought about midpoint formula too

i am correcting the given quesiton :- Hey intelligent !!!Any help could be appreciated:- If a parallel sides of a trapezoid are contained by the lines Y=1/4 x +5 and Y= 1/4 x -1 find the equation of the line that contains the mid segment. Please show me the equation to solve this!!!!!!!!!
ganeshie8
  • ganeshie8
so the slope is 1/4 y intercept of first equation = 5 y intercept of second equation = -1
anonymous
  • anonymous
yup
ganeshie8
  • ganeshie8
since midsegement is parallel to the base sides of trap, slope of midsegment is same as the base sides = 1/4
ganeshie8
  • ganeshie8
y intercept wid be average of the y intercepts of base sides = 5-1/2 = 4/2 = 2
ganeshie8
  • ganeshie8
so the equation for line containing midsegment wud be :- y = 1/4x + 2
ganeshie8
  • ganeshie8
see if that makes some sense

in terms of to solve for equation yes
