Plot your y-intercept and sketch your asymptotes. Then think about what the function looks like in each part of the domain. To the left of the VA, is it ABOVE or BELOW the oblique asymptote as x-->-infinity? To the right of the VA, is it ABOVE or BELOW the oblique asymptote as x-->+infinity? That should give you a pretty good picture of the function. You can always use an online grapher (or the old-school graphing calculator, lol) to graph it and check what you come up with. But it's important first that you understand why the function behaves the way it does, on a more intuitive level. :)
