there is another 3 before the m^2so its -3m^2-18m=0
anonymous
  • anonymous
factor out 3m in the equation..

@Data_LG2 ok i got 3m(m^2-m-6)=0 is that correct ?

yes:) then factor (m^2-m-6), using quadratic formula or any method which is easy for you..
anonymous
  • anonymous
@Data_LG2 im so sorry, but how do i do the quadratic formula if there is no number before the equal sign?
anonymous
  • anonymous
let's say your function is only m^2-m-6=0 for NOW.. a=1, b=-1, c=-6 then use the formula.. but if you want i'll teach a n easier method.. i don't know if i can explain this very well.. |dw:1378006798482:dw|

@Data_LG2 Am I suppose to get two imaginary solutions ?
anonymous
  • anonymous
nooo....|dw:1378007221739:dw||dw:1378007297475:dw| so the factor will be (m-3)(m+2).. put this into the equation: 3m(m^2-m-6)=0 3m(m-3)(m+2)=0----> this will be the factored form.. do you need the solutions for m?

@abrown16 did u get what i did?
anonymous
  • anonymous
@Data_LG2 I believe so . I think it is wrong but I got m=3,-2, but what about the 3m ?
anonymous
  • anonymous
3m=0 m=0
anonymous
  • anonymous
what's wrong?
anonymous
  • anonymous
@Data_LG2 did you just divide it ?
anonymous
  • anonymous
yes:) so your solutions will be m= -2, m=0 and m=3
anonymous
  • anonymous
like the other factors you set them up like this: m-3=0 m=3 m+2=0 m=-2
anonymous
  • anonymous
@Data_LG2 ohhhh ok !!! So I have m=3,-2, 0 . Is that correct ?
anonymous
  • anonymous
yes.. did you understand?? i can explain it again for you..
anonymous

@Data_LG2 just one more time if you do not mind. I really appreciate this. :)

@Data_LG2 you are too good. I wish I was that good . lol Thank you sooooo much !!! i understand now .
anonymous
  • anonymous
no problem:) sorry if you do not understand the first one.. i'm having trouble in explaining things(^_^) and welcome to Open study!

@Data_LG2 no you are fine, i am the same way. and thank you . i will be on here a lot because i am horrible at math .

same here:)
