no you're not bothering me ;) To make this easier, i'm going to draw it. I don't know about you but drawing the problem always helps me in geometry :) |dw:1378081842514:dw|

So for number 26, ABC =4x-12 and the angle ABD=24. Now based on the drawing, we know that there are two angles inside of ABC, which are ABD, and DBC. When you add them together, they will equal ABC. So the equation is ABD +DBC=ABC can you plug in the values? :)

okay so ABD= 24 DBC= 24 right? they are the same. well it looks that way in the picture!! @littlenugget

haha i'm sorry xD i just drew the picture to help visualize it, but this is probably not what the angle looks like exactly. So solve this you need to take the information from the problem, and plug it in to the equation: so for #26, it says: ABC=4x-16 ABD=24 so we are going to plug in those two values into the equation to solve for DBC the equation is: ABD+DBC=ABC

I feel really lost rn! :( so, 24 + DBC= 4x-16 ??

  • littlenugget
ok, so |dw:1378082891667:dw| this is a drawing i drew just to show you that ABC is the "big" angle, and it has two "mini" ones inside of it, which is ABD and DBC. It is not to scale understand so far?
anonymous
  • anonymous
yes I do! @littlenugget
littlenugget
  • littlenugget
ok that's good :) so, the two "mini" ones(ABD and DBC), when added together, are going to equal the "big" angle (ABC). that is why the equation is going to be: ABC+DBC=ABC understand so far?
anonymous
  • anonymous
yes I do.. :) but I don't get where you told me to plug in the info.. that's where I got confused.. :/ @littlenugget
littlenugget
  • littlenugget
ohhh ok then so #26 says: ABC=4x-12, ABD=24 All i'm saying to do is to put that into the equation: ABD+DBC=ABC so...... 24+DBC=4x-12
anonymous
  • anonymous
thats what I did!! :) @littlenugget
anonymous
  • anonymous
then I start doing the algebra right?
littlenugget
  • littlenugget
yep :) it's all good!
anonymous
  • anonymous
so x equals 3 right?
anonymous

@littlenugget
littlenugget
  • littlenugget
Yep! So now you are just going to put in x into the equation :) the equation they gave you is ABC=4x-12
anonymous
  • anonymous
okay that's pretty easy!!
littlenugget
  • littlenugget
yes!!! :DDDD are you ready to 28 on your own, and i'll check it? or do you want me to work it out with you?
anonymous
  • anonymous
Ill try it on my own!! @littlenugget
littlenugget
  • littlenugget
okie dokie ;)

okay so: ABD= 3x + 20 CBD= 6x-16 3x+20 + 6x-16 -20 -20 ---------------- 9x = -36 ----------------- 9 9 x= 4 plug it into the equations 3(-4)+20= 8 6(-4)-16= -40 add 8 + -40= -32 @littlenugget
littlenugget
  • littlenugget
close! but you weren't supposed to subtract the 20, just a silly mistake ;) 3x+20+6x-16=0 9x+4=0 simplify 9x=-4 x=-4/9 now plug it into the equation ;)
anonymous
  • anonymous
wouldn't it a positive 4/9...? @littlenugget
anonymous
  • anonymous
when i plug it into my calculator i get a fraction or a decimal... lol
littlenugget
  • littlenugget
nope, because you are subtracting the 4 from both sides: 9x+4=0 -4 -4 ------------ 9x=-4 x=-4/9 lol ahhhh!!! what kind of calculator are you using? did you plug it in like this? 3(-4/9)+20+6(-4/9)-16=0
anonymous
  • anonymous
nooooo I didn't plug it in like that ! LOL
anonymous
  • anonymous
it all equals to zero
littlenugget
  • littlenugget
lol ok that's why xD you need to plug it in like that because the calculator doesn't follow PEMDAS
anonymous
  • anonymous
ohhhh okayy!
littlenugget
  • littlenugget
yep that's what i got :)

  • anonymous
omg thaaank you sooo sosososoos much helping me!! now i have to copy all of this down into my notes lol thank you again !
