Some primates have a bone called the coccyx that leads to a tail used for balance. The human tailbone is thought to be a vestigial organ. Explain what a vestigial organ is and how it supports Darwin’s ideas about adaptation.

vestigial organ is the organ which is of no use to the body now in the very simple terms. if we take the eg of humans our ancestors are apes. they have a tail so obviously have a tail bone. they used this tail to climb up the trees so it was functional at that time. now as man evolved the use of the tail reduced and thus the tail shortened as a part of evolution. now there is no tail just the tail bone. the tail bone is also shortened. this supports Darwin's idea about adaptation as man adapted to the environment and thus the tail reduced. another vestigial organ is appendix.
