Ex. |1| - |-1| 1 - 1 = 0

|x| returns magnitude ignoring the sign... |x| and |-x| are parallel going different direction in 2D. soooo they have equal magnitude. That is why as i said earlier |x|=|-x|

-x^2?...

nope

the | | mean absolute value. so |-3| would be 3 ex. |87| = 87 |-979| = 979 so: |x| - |-x| can you give it a try?

Remember that \(|x| = |-x|\).

If you subtract \(|-x|\) from both sides of this equation you get: \[ |x|-|-x| = 0 \]

For x > 0, |x| = x and |-x| = x For x < 0 |x| = -x and |-x| = -x For x > 0, |x|=|−x| ==> x = x For x < 0, |x|=|−x| ==> -x = -x ==> x = x Can you think of ANY number that is not equal to itself?
