if you do that wouldnt you be multiplying the number of girls by the number of students?

well lets make it simple lets say girls to boy ratio was 1/4 and you had 100 100*1/4 = 25 girls but you want boys so you subtract that from sum :D 100-25=75 Lets appply that to our numbers

55-20.625=34.375 run down you get 34. that decimal bothered me but now choosing numbers that i am sure work it is easy :)

Whenever you get problems like this try changing the numbers to number that are easy to work with or familiar. for example you could have choses 1/2 , 1/4, 1/10 1 in 10. :) And for total number of students use 100 :) nice even numbers and ratios. THen you simply swap back your info.

i got a feeling you will get percent problems next like 37% of 77 is what? x of y 10% of 100 you know its 10 right .10 *100 x*y .37*77= answer just a heads up

cuzz you are smart but what about: you got a dress for 47 and it was 7% off how much did you save :) WEll i am not gonna do it all but i would say i got it for 100 and it was 10% off how much did you save?

you good with percents you could easily turn 3 in 8 are girls to a percent 3/8=.375 or 37.5% are girls :D which means 100-37.5 are boys :D
