So when you replace the value of (3+h) in f(x) you get. (3+h)^2 + 3(3+h) + 5 Now open the brackets and simplify it.. See which one is the correct option thereafter.. :)

What @AkashdeepDeb said. :) and don't guess, no need for guessing! You have to plop (3+h) into the function wherever you see an x, and then just simplify that (expand the square, add like terms, etc).

Remember that a variable is just a placeholder... it stands in for some value that you "insert" and then evaluate the function. The value it stands in for need not be a number, it can be an algebraic expression, another function, etc.
