Why would the Domain be anything but All Real Numbers?
tkhunny
  • tkhunny
That's the graph of what? Certainly not f(x) = sin(x) - 5!

i know. okay so the domain is all real numbers but what is the range?

You tell me. What is the Range of the sine function?
katherinesmith
  • katherinesmith
i don't know... (5, all real numbers) ?
tkhunny
  • tkhunny
That's just silly. You have seen the graph of a sine function, right? Doesn't it oscillate between 1 and -1?
katherinesmith
  • katherinesmith
no i haven't. i don't even know what oscillate means.
tkhunny
  • tkhunny
Okay, fine. Let's look at the picture. The you will have seen it.

Not bad, but the freehand doesn't do it justice. It should go all the way up to -4 and all the way down to -6. That's what oscillate means - it jumps back and forth a lot!
katherinesmith
  • katherinesmith
okay. so how do i find the range.
tkhunny
  • tkhunny
Sneaky, wasn't it? I just told you in my last post. It gets up to -4 and down to -6. This is the Range.
