When you square a decimal with a positive number it just becomes a smaller decimal, so you know that your going to be squaring it by a negative number or a fraction maybe. In this situation, 1/6 to the power of negative 1 is 6. You just pretty much square both of them and then flip it. So 1/6 to the negative 2 would be 36. x+3=-2. x=-5

yeah i know. what i did was make it 1/6 to the power of x = 36. the answer to that equation is -2. so x+3 has to equal -2. so x is negative 5.
