The thesis statement is not the first thing you write. First you do some research, get an idea of where you are going, and do a bit of an outline or sketch of how you plan to go with the paper. After that, you can write a thesis statement that encompasses the topic and goal of the paper.
I have the paper written for the most part, but it is a descriptive essay and the teacher does not think my thesis is saying what my paper does, it was on a an animal in a zoo.
The thesis needs to be a sort of arrow pointing at the goal. A one line outline.

The and why this being is an interesting part of out world. \(\leftarrow\) See, something like that says that you will describe the animal as interesting. If your paper is then factual or funny, you have not have met the thesis statement. If you say that you are giving information about somethings place in nature, you need to describe how it provides a function in its natural habitat. If you are looking at why humans like to look at in a zoo, you need to talk about the color or actions that make it entertaining. On down the line, the statement needs to give the topic and goal as a minimum, and it should highlight the path if it is possible!
