what r the probs
@danieljoel @ybarrap There are four tasks. Task 1: On a piece of paper, construct the initials of your first and last name using a compass and straightedge. Only parallel and perpendicular lines may be used in the construction, and both types of constructions must be demonstrated in your finished product. Do not erase arc markings made during the construction process as these help your instructor determine if the lines are constructed properly. Here is an example of a finished product for Zachary Quinto:
Task 2: Using complete sentences, explain how you constructed one of your initials from Task 1 Task 3: On a separate piece of paper, choose two of the following polygons to inscribe within a circle using a compass and straightedge. Each polygon should be constructed within its own circle. an equilateral triangle a square a regular hexagon Again, do not erase your arc markings made during the construction process, as these help your instructor determine if your figures are constructed properly.
Task 4: Using complete sentences, explain how you constructed one of the polygons inscribed within a circle.
Do u know how to use a compass and straightedge? This will be mandatory for these problems.
@ybarrap I have both of those materials, and i know how to use them, yes.
What is the challenge for you in task 1?
What is the hardest part. Have u started? Where do you actually need some help?
Have u marked where u want the top and bottom of ur letters will sit?
@ybarrap it's task 1 that's confusing me, and no..
Draw a line for the bottom where our letters will sit. Everything will be based on this line.
okay, I drew a line.
oh, and I should probably tell you my initials are M, W.
For all straight lines, use this technique to draw perpendicular lines to this line u just draw. Start with the M (of course) and get that first vertical line drawn: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Kp4P0fje_k
Once you are done, generate a parallel line at the top of ur M using this technique: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKL_3xppHcQ. Make it short and you can also use this line to mark the top of ur letters. Choose a distance from the base of this first segment to mark the center of ur M. Generate a diagonal from the top of the perpendicular line (where it intersects the parallel guide-line) to this mark. Use the compass to mark out an equivalent distance from the M's midpoint to the right on ur base line. Create another perpendicular from the base at this new point. Proceed in this fashion and u should be done in no time.
