it is short hand... you start at i=1 (the number at the bottom of the Sigma) and write the term 5 i -5 as 5*1 -5 then you write the term with i=2 5*2-5 then with i=3 5*3 -5 then with i=4 (last number, given at the top of the sigma) 5*4-5 now add the the four terms
