It does not matter if Jim's number is a fraction or some ugly number. You start with Jim's number. It goes up top. then you divide it by Jane's number So, what is Jim's number ?

yes. and Jane's number is 3 so the problem is 4 3/4 divided by 3 the trick is to make it look like one of the choices. any idea how to do this ?

4 3/4 is a mixed number. They are nasty to deal with. Can you change to an improper fraction ?

yes, now your problem is 19/4 divided by 3 you could write it like this \[ \frac{ \frac{19}{4}}{3} \] which is also a bit ugly However, remember that dividing by 3 is the same as multiplying by 1/3 (Try to remember this idea) so the problem can be written as 19/4 * 1/3 can you simplify ?
