Which statement explains why the federal government had to engage in a large-scale propaganda effort when the United States entered World War I? Few citizens knew what they could do to help support the war effort. The public was divided in its support between the Allies and the Central Powers. The demand for news about the fighting spiked when the United States entered the war. Many U.S. citizens were convinced that the United States was not powerful enough to win the war.
